Protecting Childhoods from Day One

One of the best ways we can protect children is by helping their parents. The right support means that parents can give their children the best possible start in life, and a childhood free from abuse. We couldn’t do it without you. This is just one of the ways your support is helping new parents.

Baby Steps

Pregnancy and the first months of a child’s life are crucial – laying the foundations for their future. But parents who most need support at this time are unlikely to get any. Their own circumstances and past experiences might mean they don’t have their own support networks – and becoming a parent can be really difficult.

That’s why we launched Baby Steps – to identify and support parents who need our help.

Baby Steps is for new parents who are more likely to need extra help and less likely to access antenatal education. For example, they might be depressed or have severe money troubles. We prepare them for becoming parents – not just
for the birth itself – by working with them in the run-up to the birth of their baby, and afterwards. We help them learn how to care for their new baby, reduce the stress that new parents often experience, and ultimately improve their babies’ lives.

Since Baby Steps started in January 2012, we’ve worked with over 3,000 parents. We want to reach more new mums and dads, and help them to give their babies the best possible start in life. With 92 per cent of our funding coming from people just like you, you help make this happen.
